Neon green

Neon green is the colour of summer 2022. While it is true that throughout 2022 we have seen a wide variety of neons in monochromatic styles or in risky mixes, it is green in its more acidic versions like lime, which happens to dye the summer 2022. 

Mini skirts

The impact of the miu miu mini skirt has marked a before and after in the fashion sector and the coming trends. We have seen all Instagram full of this iconic outfit in which the clothes cover up just enough. In summer, when temperatures are higher, the mini skirt is a must. 

Animal print

The tiger stripe print has already established itself as the absolute star of the season’s animal print. However, there is also an alternative, the literal animal print in which animal shapes take centre stage. 

Oversize

The oversize trend consists of wearing loose and comfortable clothes. Its translation is literally ‘too big’. This trend is perfect for summer, as travelling and high temperatures are more bearable with big and comfortable clothes. 

These trends will be the ones that will set the fashion and style trends this summer 2022. We took some Vogue articles as references. One thing that stands out season after season is that there’s still something exciting about quickly spotting what’s new and either feasting your eye on it or trying to incorporate it into your wardrobe and everyday looks before (almost) everyone else does when it’s in season. In other words, knowing the trends for autumn-winter 2021/2022 right now means being top of the class in terms of study, aesthetics and maybe even practicality.

Here are some of the trends Vogue has classified for the coming season.

Quilted effect

The quilted effect, also known as quilting, is one of the trends classified in the practical category.  It is an effect that is easy to distinguish, whether in feather coats, such as those seen in Miu Miu’s fashion shows or also in Dolce & Gabbana’s, reflecting a hyper-stamped version with a futuristic cut. In addition, this type of effect is characterised by protection and comfort, which customers often want that feeling to accompany them.

High executive socks

This trend for the coming season may be familiar, as Prada proposed to claim this accessory in the spring – summer 2019 collection. But it is in this autumn-winter 2021 season, when this semi-transparent stocking sock that is halfway between the ankle and the knee is going to triumph. Dolce & Gabbana has used them to finish off all kinds of looks, including the sexiest ones, Simone Rocha, to finish off her college-inspired outfits, as has Sandy Liang.

Tailoring

This trend is probably considered one of the best suited to the wardrobe concept, but also as one that speaks of optimism, as there is some hope in the fact that very different brands are betting on a product category associated with a purely social context and away from homewear.

Long hair or teddy

Both are protagonists in the winter collections. This is a very common trend, especially in areas where low temperatures prevail, such as in the northern hemisphere. During 2020, outerwear for outdoor activities experienced a remarkable surge of interest worldwide during the months when confinement ended.  The outdoor, cold and fur (synthetic) equation is at the aforementioned Miu Miu, where the material has made a strong statement in inescapable, monumental fur boots that bring to mind reminiscences of the 2000s.

Being sustainable has become a priority for fashion companies as the fashion industry is the second most polluting industry in the world, consumers are increasingly demanding and being sustainable is becoming more profitable for brands.

Organic fabrics

They help the textile industry to move towards a sustainable manufacturing model, generate awareness among end consumers about the need to make a more responsible consumption, so brands create lines of “sustainable” clothing.

Reusing old clothes by giving them a longer useful life is a trend that is becoming more and more common, as well as transforming clothes or applying DIY (self-made clothes).

This is clothing made from rubbish and waste.

Slow fashion

This refers to clothing created with care, with manual rather than industrial processes, opting for local rather than global, seeking authenticity and extending the useful life of the products.

Sustainable packaging 

Creating packaging in a way that produces a minimum environmental impact.

Just like last season’s trends, the spring 2021 trends try to bring that ray of hope and colour to the situation we are currently living in. The trends have had to adapt to our “new life” by adapting fabrics and garments to our new indoor life.

The editors of Vogue wanted to do their bit for the season by showcasing some of their favourite clothes, accessories, prints and colours of the season. While there are a variety of trends that are catching our eye, we want to see which footwear is the season’s most interesting and which ones will be making all the right moves this coming season.

Alexandra Gurvitch opts for a classic moccasin from G.H. Bass & Co which she will combine with a nice feminine skirt from Re-Nylon, a garment we’ve already talked about in another of our blogs, and punky style t-shirts with cut-outs.

Christian Allaire, on the other hand, prefers to take his look back to the 70s with a Gucci heeled ankle boot. Christian confesses that he’d love to pair them with slightly flared jeans or classic checked trousers. On top, he doesn’t hesitate in his choice of top, a good country collared shirt.

Willow Lindley reveals her favourite trend on a professional and personal level and that is flat shoes. She opts for an out-of-the-ordinary flat shoe with a touch of colour to create fun and colourful combinations. For example, here’s an example of Gucci’s red checked ballerina flats with the brand’s signature gold chain detailing.

Madeline Fass opts for a shiny brown trench coat with buttons down the front and says she can’t wait to wear a pair of platform sandals, which are a must-have of the season and will help her to gradually get back on a good heel. Madeline opts for a sandal like the Melitto sandals by ATP Atelier.

These colours are characterised by their expressiveness, and by being full of meanings that represent a classic essence. One of the star colours of this season will be brown in its different shades, from the darkest to lighter tones with yellow and orange shades, which can be complemented with military or ultramarine green or, for the more daring tastes, with a pink or intense red.

One of the shades that is presented as a trend, is the colour rust, an orange tone of very autumnal essence, at the same time as seventy, which falls again between the parades of this year, resulting in a very combinable tone and that can suit anyone.

Other of the tonalities that are presented like tendencies, and that we will be able to find in the parades of the London Fashion Week are: soft and natural yellows, explosive and carefree oranges, as sample of spontaneity and happiness; orange reds, vibrant and very dynamic, that give life to the chromatic palette of the LFW; and other more elegant and sophisticated tonalities like the red garnet, with important shades of very earthly browns.

In addition, other of the most striking shades that will mark the autumn-winter 2020/21 season are toasted pink, one of the sweetest and most feminine shades; light blues and other darker ones such as True blue, a shade that conveys confidence and security, very easy to wear and combine with more striking shades; and, finally, purple shades, especially a very intense purple that is one of the most daring options.

A season conditioned by functionality and practicality is what this autumn’s chromatic palette represents, bringing with it a message of positivity, optimism and determination.
